Joyce Hu, Ph.D.

VICE PRESIDENT, HEAD OF CANCER BIOLOGY

Joyce Hu is Vice President, Head of Cancer Biology at Sonata Therapeutics. Joyce brings extensive experience in cancer immunology to Sonata, where she leads the cancer biology team in understanding the interplay between cells and signals in the tumor microenvironment to develop therapeutics targeting cancer.

Previously, Joyce was a Director and Head of Research at the BioNTech US site in Gaithersburg, Maryland, where she oversaw the coordination of functional teams in biomarker discovery, TCR discovery, assay development, automation, sequencing, and bioinformatics to develop personalized cancer immunotherapies. Before that, she developed personalized and off-the-shelf T cell-based therapeutics at Kite Pharma, Adaptive Biotechnologies, and Poseida Therapeutics.

Joyce received her B.S. in Music at the University of California, Berkeley, and her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences with a focus on Immunology at the University of California, San Francisco. Joyce pursued her postdoctoral studies at the La Jolla Institute where she studied the orchestration of the adaptive immune response to infection, cancer, and autoimmunity.
