
Aaron Mackey, PH.D.
Vice President of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Head of Data Sciences
Aaron Mackey is Vice President of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Head of Data Sciences at Sonata Therapeutics. A cellular immunologist and computational biologist by training, Aaron brings more than 20 years of experience applying statistical learning methods across vastly diverse, multimodal, and high-throughput biological data to derive both mechanistic and operational insights. In addition to his work identifying and delivering the many opportunities for AI/ML to further bolster Sonata’s platform, he leads the joint Data Science organization responsible for both discovery platform data engineering and therapeutic program data analytics and insights.
Aaron has held a number of data science leadership roles at previous biotechs and CROs, including Roivant Sciences, Integral/Valo Health, Covance/LabCorp, and HemoShear. He began his professional career as an Investigator of Computational Biology at GSK.
Aaron received his B.A. from Reed College, M.S. in Immunology from Washington University in St. Louis, and his Ph.D. in Microbiology/Computational Biology from the University of Virginia, where he continues to be a visiting faculty member.
